Tour Details
This cultural and social tour centers around the famous Namobuddha Monastery, one of Nepal’s most significant Buddhist sites. One can indulge in the gripping stories of Lord Buddha – the founder of Buddhism, who came here as a prince, and also revel in the breathtaking mountain views of the Himalayas. It also includes a short hike to the beautiful local village Phulbari which is a showcase for traditional Nepali craftsmanship, culture, and architecture with typical old houses, temples and monuments. Observing rural Nepal at its finest, with locals busily engaged in daily activities like farming, cattle rearing and preparing local foods and dishes in curiously unique and traditional methods will feel like a journey through time. They will be more than happy to engage with you and share if you are interested to try it out for yourself! Also, a visit to Namobuddha Resort will be very refreshing which has been applauded for its traditional Nepali housing décor using Earth mud and tiles and serving locally grown organic food from its own farm in its premises. These various facets make this trip nothing short of memorable!
We drive about an hour through the beautiful countryside to Dhulikhel, an ancient ethnic town and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas. And then a short drive to Namobuddha Monastery for sightseeing. It is a very pleasant walk-around exploring the grounds. You can meditate, attend afternoon Puja (ritual) ceremony, talk to Ani (Woman Monk) about their ways of life and Buddhism.
Namo Buddha Monastery is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Nepal, with its famous Stupas and the Tiger’s Den. It is believed the ancient Buddha was born here as a prince and he selflessly sacrificed to feed a starving tiger with his own flesh. Located at the top of a hill, it overlooks important towns like Dhulikhel, Banepa and we also get a chance to see amazing views of the Himalayan range including Gaurishankar Himal on a clear day.
We then head to Namobuddha Resort, have lunch and relax, enjoying local organic tea along with the tranquil view of the resort
Namobuddha Resort, perched on a hilltop at 1800m, is an oasis of peace and tranquility. The resort is built in traditional Newari style, surrounded by organic farmland serving local and only vegetarian food, flower gardens and forest, where we encourage sustainable methods of cultivation as well as preserving the natural wildlife habitat. After lunch and some rest, we hike (1-2 hrs) to a nearby local Village of Phulbari. It is an ancient village of Newar ethnic community on the outer borderland of Kathmandu Valley. It is an interesting place to visit with traditional Nepalese buildings and temples each showcasing traditional Newari craftsmanship and artistic skill, alongside bare-brick houses with carved wooden windows. We observe rural Nepali lifestyle, culture and sustenance as villagers go by their daily activities. Locals are more than happy to engage with us and offer a taste of their special local drinks. After the hike, we return to the resort, relax a bit and drive back to Kathmandu with beautiful memories of Namobuddha.
